Frequently Asked Questions

Conflict Management Courses

Question: What is the maximum and minimum number you will teach per course?
For training quality a minimum of 5 persons is recommended per course. And for health and safety there must be a maximum of 15 persons per course
Question: An element of the training is physical, so do you have to be fit to take part?
The answer is a simple NO. The course is designed to be simple but effective. The techniques taught are breakaway techniques and do not require a great deal of effort. The majority of techniques use the attacker’s strength against them, which minimises the workload on the student’s part.
Question: Do you as an instructor have to have insurance?
Yes. Like any business there must be an insurance policy in place, despite the fact that the techniques are tried and tested and are safe. I have public liability insurance.
Question: Are you able to train a small or large group even if they don’t come under the courses listed?
Yes, the courses are very flexible and can be tailored to your needs. If a group of individuals wish to take part in a conflict management course, it can be booked in the same way as any other one of the courses.
Question: Is the course just a one-off?
No. Refresher courses are recommended from six months after your initial training to 12 months. The refresher courses duration and frequency will depend on the level of risk within your field of work or environment.
Question: Can I change the number of course candidate’s last minute?
Yes, providing that you still meet the requirements of each course and a maximum of 15 persons per course.
Question: What is your cancellation policy?
If a course needs to be cancelled or postponed to a later date, then you must give at least 72 hours notice to avoid being charged for the training. In some cases you may be charged for the venue hire as different providers have longer cancellation notice periods.
Question: Will I have anything to take home after my training?
Yes. Each student will receive a certificate of attendance and an information booklet covering the main elements of the course material.
Question: What is the difference between a half and a full day course?
A full day course is designed for those who work in high to medium-risk jobs, such as security staff, community workers, health carers, etc. Whereas the half-day course is more suited to those who work in safer environments but still carry a risk of an attack, verbally or physically.

Self Defence

Question: How long is a crash course?
A crash course lasts for approximately two hours covering the basics.
Question: Will there be other people on a course?
A crash course will only have people that the organiser has selected, i.e. friends, family, work staff. It’s not the same as, for example, just turning up at a martial arts class or an aerobics class. Each person interested in the course will have to find people to come along (minimum of 4 – maximum of 6 at private gym and maximum of 15 at your own venue).
Question: An element of the training to physical, so do you have to be fit to take part?
The answer is a simple NO. The course is designed to be simple but effective. The techniques taught are breakaway techniques and do not require a great deal of effort. The majority of techniques use the attacker’s strength against them, which minimises the workload on the student’s part.
Question: Will I have anything to take home after my training?
Yes. Each student will receive a certificate of attendance.
Question: Can I provide my own venue?
Yes. If you would prefer to have the course at your own venue rather that coming to my private gym it can be arranged. The cost may change depending on the distance of your venue. That can be discussed prior to booking.
Question: Can we split the course up or does it have to be taught in one session?
You can split it up into two separate hour-long sessions, providing that each member of your group is agreed (for those who supply own venue, an additional charge may occur for travel expenses, depending on venue location).

Yes. I can tailor-make the workout to suit you. Your session can include anything, such as kickboxing, running and Pilates. It’s up to you.
Question: Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes. At least 24-hours must be given for cancellations to avoid being charged for the session.
Question: How many sessions do I need per week?
It all depends on four things: How much can you afford, how much time you have per week to train, how soon you would like to see results, and what are your objectives? Remember, if once a week is all you can manage, something is better than nothing.
